Coir blocks and Coir Bales

All Fertile Fibre coir is quality controlled, from sustainable organic sources at least 50 miles from the ocean.

To ensure freedom from salt—which ruins some of the coir on the market—our product is carefully tested. Test include electric conductivity, pH, density and consistency, sodium, potassium. Only when we are happy will we release it for sale.

Coir is the ideal medium for hydroponics.

Each block of compressed coir will expand to make approximately 9 litres. Can be used for seed raising or cuttings and as a base for homemade composts or added to aerate garden waste composts.
NuGro is a perfect balanced plant food for using with coir blocks, especially as an initial plant food and for subsequent feedings. NuGro is very easy to use; just add 24ml in 3 litres of water per block.
To reconstitute your blocks: –
You will need a large bucket/bowl or preferably a watertight wheelbarrow. Once you have added 3 litres of water (warm water acts faster) per block, leave to stand for 24 hours (this will even out the water content of your finished material).
You will find the blocks will expand to as much as three times their original size. Now you can break the material up with either a small spade or fork or by using your hands.
You mix is now ready to use as a multipurpose potting compost. To feed, use NuGro regularly at 5ml per litre (1 litre NuGro will feed 40 coir blocks)
Other uses:
Your blocks can now be added to your own compost mixes or can have well rotted manure, green waste, bark, sand, grit etc. added to them. Potting compost will be produced by adding our specially formulated plant food or 5F’s fertiliser.
Straight coir contains only low amounts of plant nutrition but can be used for seeds and cuttings as long as they are potted up once established.
