I am thinking of making and using blocks to raise my transplants this season.
Does anyone have any experience of using any of these composts with this technique?

Peter,
I have been using FF seed compost with great success for more than five years to raise seed and cuttings for transplants from modules (plastic plug cell tray). The key, as with all FF composts, is not to over compact or over water.
Do not worry if the top growth appears slower than you are used to – I find FF promotes strong root growth, which means the transplant gets away really well. Wait until roots are visible throughout the block and then plant on.

Peter,
Have been managing an organic project for a Solihull Mind for the last 14 years and have been using FF multipurpose with great sucess for herbaceaous perennials, wildflowers, veg, herbs and bedding plants for the last 5 years. I sow straight into the multipurpose in both plugs and seed trays with no problems. Also use for cuttings (though haven’t tried blocks yet) with same succes.
Very popuar with service users as you can use it all day without getting your clothes or yourself in the least bit gruuby and is also light to lift compared to other composts.
Agree with Steve (above) about not over compacting or over watering – for the later I go on the weight of the pot/tray rather than how dry the surface of the compost looks

Fertile Fibre is great to work with, hands stay nice and clean. My daughter loves the feel of FF and says it is like Teddy Bear’s fur. Great result for sowing as well as growing on.

Ordered this morning, and managed to duplicate the order somehow! However, I rang and it was all sorted out straight away with no fuss – the nice man in the office even knew who I was before I told him! Great service.

I’ve been using Fertile Fibre seed and potting mix for the last few years at the various farms I have grown veg for. This year starting out for ourselves with our own farm I shall certainly continue with these composts. I particularly like the mixes as they always do exactly what they are supposed to and they consistently give excellent and reliable results.

Just about to try FF for the first time for our Organic Smallholding. Must say what a friendly and efficient service and the perfect solution for a farm like us – mixed palet and a sensible quantity available – we did not have to buy a lorry load and mortgage our souls to be able to have proper organic seed compost – can’t wait to get going.

Extremely friendly and efficient service. We are an organic farm that grows vegetables for our shop and box scheme, we started growing all the vegetables from seed last year rather than contracting out to a nursery, we used fertile fibre compost mixes for all our growing and were delighted with the excellent results we acheived.
Love the new website!

Well what can i say… i have never used a compost like fertile fibre, the texture is so light and fine, my seeds have germinated beautifully in it. You can feel and see the goodness in it! I wouldnt use anything else!

Hi
I purchased a pack of potting plus No.2750 to try out for my cacti,
the results are so good particularly with the germination of seed that I shall be ordering another pack asap.

Evening, I have made compost from vegetable and garden waste and intend to bulk it up with coir bales. I was wondering if I would benefit from adding Nugro nutrients, or would that be overkill?
Many Thanks

Mark,
It depends what you are using the compost for. If you will be making your own potting mix and your own compost is nice and dark and crumbly then leave the Nugro out for now – you can always mix some up up if your plants lok as though they need that extra boost and apply it as a liquid feed.
We find putting the coir bales in a wheelbarrow full of water and soaking for three days helps!

I run a Horticultural Training/ Therapy Site called Greenshoots. I converted to Fertile Fibre this year for all our seed sowing and veg production. I have been really pleased with the performance of the compost, particularly its water holding abilities as weekend watering is sometimes a bit hit and miss! I’ve lost very few plants and they all seem to be growing on strongly.
I agree with other comments about it being clean and easy to use, the adults I work with all have learning difficulties, and I can send them home looking fairly clean after a dust off! Definately a bonus!
